Meet The Doctors
Meet the cardiologists
Kailua Cardiology has cared for the windward community since 2007, combining preventive cardiology with advanced cardiac care.

Maria Markarian, DO, FACC, FSCAI
Noninvasive & Preventive Cardiology
Board-certified in cardiology by the American Osteopathic Board of Internal Medicine
After nearly 20 years with a large, well-respected cardiology group in mid-Michigan, Dr. Maria Markarian followed her heart to Hawaii — where she established Kailua Cardiology in 2007.
Dr. Maria Markarian is a cardiologist who has been diagnosing and treating all types of heart disease — including congenital heart defects, coronary artery disease, arrhythmias, and congestive heart failure — for more than 30 years.
Her successful cardiology practice is based in Kailua on the island of Oahu and offers noninvasive cardiology care. She and her staff provide a wide variety of procedures both in-office as well as off-site. Her clinical focus includes arrhythmias, pacemakers, valvular heart disease and congestive heart failure, along with advanced lipid and cholesterol management. Dr. Markarian also has a particular interest in serving female patients, for whom heart disease is a very real threat — women are especially susceptible to heart and vascular problems during pregnancy as well as during chemotherapy for breast cancer.
Dr. Markarian is one of just a handful of doctors at Castle Medical Center who specialize in cardiovascular disease. She networks with electrophysiology, structural heart disease, TAVR, and PAD experts at Queen's Hospital and Straub. When needed, she has coordinated additional evaluation and treatment of patients at UCSF, Stanford, UCLA, Cleveland Clinic, Mayo Clinic, and NY Presbyterian, among other nationally recognized centers of excellence.
Dr. Markarian provides vital cardiology services with kindness and compassion.
